Narrow Minded!

We are to bring captive all of our thoughts to Christ, large task wouldn’t you agree? How are we to do that every moment of the day, is it easy, is it without a struggle or without a battle? In all respects, it is a spiritual exercise, a battle and a very important one! It is something we must work at and be conscious of as well, all in the good providence of our God!

There are countless verses that speak to us of our thoughts, how we are to view them, how God views them and what benefits come from them. We must be narrow minded and bring our thoughts captive to the Scriptures and leave behind the thoughts of the world.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2)

Our minds are transformed and renewed at regeneration but that work continues in this life. To live by the principles and doctrines of grace, the scriptures teach us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts which is exactly the opposite of being conformed to the world. As set forth in the book of James---every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust and when conceived, it bringeth forth sin. That all takes place in the mind, in our thoughts!

We should desire to renew our thoughts and bring them captive day by day. We should pray to that end, we should exercise the ways God has given us to accomplish that….not only reading scriptures, but studying them as well, by the study of theology and talking about these great truths daily if given an opportunity with like minded saints. Our minds are renewed by the worship of our God on Sunday and by listening to the Word preached at church. God has not left us without the means and the Spirit who renews our minds.

“And be renewed in the spirit of your mind” (Ephesians 4:23)

The results are that we prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God, by our renewed mind we are set apart from the world in our conversation and our walk and we find that as Hebrews 5:14 says:

“But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil”

to be continued...

  1. Good post, Eileen. Great minds must think alike. I posted something on the virtues of "narrow minded" conviction yesterday as well.

  2. Thanks Andy, Isn't it the most profound privelege and freedom that we can even begin to think HIS thoughts after Him.!
